The Reservoir

In honor of Earth Day, for the the whole month of April, our building has been running their #bethegreen initiative.  This initiative is to try to encourage residents to think about the planet and environment and how every action has a reaction.  It has definitely got me and E thinking about ways we can be more green. We are already pretty good at recycling and about using reusable water bottles (ex. Camelbak, bkr, Nalgene).  What we have been trying to focus on improving this month is eating locally.  Hopping in the car and going to a restaurant in another part of the state results in more toxic emissions in the air. Nobody wants to breathe those in. We want clean air for everyone!  So instead of driving, we have been walking to restaurants in South Orange. There are so many amazing restaurants in the area. We are on a mission to try them all!

Last week we went out with some friends to one of our favorite local Italian restaurants, The Reservoir. It is authentic and really is an experience.  The prices are great and the food is awesome. You will ALWAYS leave with leftovers as the portions are HUGE.  We love that we can walk over, bring a bottle of beer or wine (usually beer as E is a beer snob), as it is BYOB, and enjoy a nice meal just the two of us, or hang out with a group of friends.

We always start with the Bernstein Salad, which is a mix of cheeses, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette. It is big enough to share between four people. Even if it is just the two of us we still order it. It’s too good to miss!

E ALWAYS orders the Chicken Parmesan as it is his favorite thing to eat at any Italian restaurant. It comes with a side of pasta with their special tomato sauce. Talk about carbo loading.  I always order something that has a ton of their homemade tomato sauce as it is to die for. I cannot get enough of it.  Their Eggplant Parmesan is pretty spectacular. There are layers of flavor and tons of sauce! Their pizza is always good as well. Who doesn’t love a crispy thin crust?!

One thing to note is that it is CASH ONLY. If you can get over that then you MUST try The Reservoir. You won’t regret it.
