LOCAL: Soft Serve at Soft Swerve in New York City

When E first moved up to Boston for dental school, we discovered a Chinese bakery in Chinatown called 101 Bakery that made the best bubble tea. They also have some kick ass bread and pastries. Initially, E and I both would always order the green milk bubble tea but, after seeing other people order taro milk bubble tea, I thought I would give it a shot. I had no idea at the time that taro is actually a root vegetable! After my first sip of taro milk bubble tea, I was a taro convert.

Since we moved down to New Jersey, and because of the recent opening and abrupt closing of our local bubble tea spot, I have been unable to satisfy my taro cravings…UNTIL NOW! A fellow blogger posted about a new soft serve joint downtown in New York City called Soft Swerve. Of course we HAD to try it! A few weekends ago, after eating WAAAAAAY too much at By Chloe (review HERE) and a mini donut at Doughnut Project, we found our way down to Soft Swerve.

At Soft Swerve, they serve ube soft serve! While ube is not the same as taro, it is similar. Ube is a purple yam! Thankfully, when we arrived there was no line. We rushed up to the counter and ordered an regular ube swirl in a Black Chocolate cone. E and I shared one. It was more than enough for two people! While they had so many delicious topping and special options, we decided to go au natural. We wanted the ube flavor to shine. And shine it did! It was too cold outside to walk and eat, so we sat for a while to enjoy our treat. While we sat, a line developed! It seems we got there at just the right time.

Next time, I am definitely getting the ube again in a Red Cinnamon cone with crushed Oreo’s and Reese’s Puffs! I might even make E get the black sesame so we can try something new. Can’t wait to come back during the summer!
