A few weeks ago, E and I were looking for quick Sunday afternoon snack, so we decided to pop into Mama Ana’s Empanadas in Totowa. We had heard good things from friends and via Instagram, and their menu looked great! They had a great variety of empanadas and several vegetarian options for me, which is always a plus.
When we arrived, we were immediately struck by how adorable the restaurant is. The decor is so on point! After carefully reviewing the menu, E ordered the California empanada, while I ordered the Spinach and Cheese empanada. To drink, we opted to share one of their FAMOUS Morir Soñando shakes. They described it as an orange creamsicle smoothie. We couldn’t wait to try it!
Within a few minutes, our order was ready and a server brought the empanadas, the accompanying sauces, and our shake to our table. The empanadas were piping hot! We couldn’t wait to dig in! The Spinach and Cheese was super cheesy and had just the right amount of spinach. The empanada dough was hot and flakey – just the way I like it. E loved the California empanada. It was STUFFED with shredded chicken, bacon, cheese and avocado. What’s not to like about all of that goodness? We inhaled our empanadas within minutes of their arrival. They were DELICIOUS! The Morir Soñando shake really delivered on the promise of an orange creamsicle. It tasted JUST LIKE ONE! And it was so incredibly refreshing! I could totally go for one right now.
Because I can never resist dessert, I convinced E to order the Apple Pie empanada to finish our meal. It came dusted with powdered sugar, drizzled in caramel, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. WOW was it good. The apples were soft and sweet. The vanilla ice cream really complemented the apples nicely. It was such a nice bite! We even managed to finish it. We were stuffed to the brim!
If you are in North Jersey or Totowa, I would highly recommend stopping into Mama Ana’s for a quick bite! You will not be disappointed!
